About Angela

Angela WattonBorn and bred in the Midlands of a volatile parental mix of Welsh and Irish, I grew to rebellious adolescence in rural Worcestershire, dodging school when a Maths test threatened and attending English lessons with a passionate devotion.

I cut my baby teeth on Richmal Crompton's 'Sunny Stories' and taught myself to read at an absurdly early age, delighting in the adventure of discovering throughout the years such giants in literature as Shakespeare, Ray Bradbury, Dylan Thomas, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, John Steinbeck, Margaret Mitchell - and so many, many other really great writers and teachers.

Writing is my passion and always has been since I was eight years old penning my first story about my little dog 'Bidits', optimistically entitled - 'The Best Dog In The Show'.

Sadly it was not to be, Candy the Cairn Terrier got thrown out for peeing on the judges table and picking fights with all the other contestants – and the book never got published!

Married and widowed twice, my first venture into matrimony at eighteen years old to an accountant ended when I was twenty-three when I fell deliciously and recklessly in love with an exciting jazz pianist. From the sublime to the ridiculous as they say - or should that be the other way round!

I have been a hospital nurse – which I loved, an Artist – which I enjoy, a Sculptor of mythical beasts – surprisingly successful – and a freelance journalist.

I have enjoyed – or endured – a very chequered life, peppered with tragedy, drama, love and determination, all of which has given me a priceless legacy in experience, gratitude and humility.

I live with my son, (and cats!) here, in one of the prettiest villages in mid Wales, in a small cottage gloriously surrounded by mountains, rivers, forests and lakes, not only my physical home but my spiritual one, and for the first time in my life, I can follow my dream to write – write – write!
